It was brought to my attention that there is a service called 1-800-Free411.  This service can be used just like directory assistance.  It literally costs you nothing except the few seconds of listening to an advertiser’s message.  So beyond listening to the marketing part and not having a live person helping you, it is a free way to get phone numbers and information.

You can get dial it from any phone.  You don’t sign up for anything.  The only costs would be the costs associated with your cell phone plan (if you use your cell phone).

The service also will give you directions turn by turn.  It is like having your very own GPS.
