Letters - Dispute Letter for Credit Reporting Agencies  E-mail

This is the key letter for cleaning up inaccurate information on your credit report.  You can use this letter for each inaccurate piece of information or combine all inaccurate line items into one letter.  If this is a big item, I would use a letter especially for that one item.    If you are attempting to clean up small items such as misspellings or incorrect personal information, I would submit it on-line.

There are a few keys to this letter being effective. First, you need to provide enough information in order for the credit reporting agency to verify your account.  Second, if available, provide as much as supporting data as possible to back up your dispute.  With additional information, you have a better case.  A credit reporting agency can always state that not enough information exists.  If the credit reporting agency cannot verify the debt or finds that the evidence provided by you is correct, they must delete the information and notify the other two credit reporting agencies.  They also must provide you with a corrected credit report showing that this change has occurred.
